Bubba was picked up by the SPCA and I gave in to my son and husband to adopted him. He was running loose and had not been fixed. Bubba will not go down stairs, figures my other 3 dogs are his best buddies who were put on earth to play all day with him, and he never takes any thing serious. Tell him no and he crouches down and barks playfully. He is a spaz and the other dogs put up with him for only so long then growl in annoyance. What can I do to calm him down. I've tried my son on a skate board for miles, Bubba pulling him. That's good for 20 minutes when he gets home. Help!

There are certain breeds of working dogs who need to do 'jobs' in order to be happy or they can be destructive. They need constant stimulation in order to function. It sounds like your house is full of people and dogs and fun things to do all day. So possibly he needs to figure out who is the alpha dog in the house. Have any of your other dogs shown him that he is low man on the totem pole? Ultimately the pack leader should be you or your husband or your son. Try asserting dominance over him and never back down when he won't listen to you. But be very clear and show him that you are not backing down until things go your way. Also a pet training class that trains you not so much as it trains the dog, is a good way to go

has he been neutered? has he been to obedience classes for training, socialization, and FOCUS? if you get a smart breed of dog (shepherd) you need to keep them MENTALLY STIMULATED - I am sure once the dog is done obedience lessons he would LOVE agility!
