My cat throws a fit if I try to put her into the carrier to go to the vet, on car trips, etc. The end result of the trip is not always bad, we aren't always going to the vet. Getting her into the carrier is a real chore. She swipes at me and scratches my arms. I can't even bribe her in there. How can I make this less traumatic for all of us?

I used to have a mid-size aquarium that I inherited from the previous house owners so it was already well established.

When we moved I had to leave the tank behind, now I'm looking to set up a new tank, and would like suggestions for hardy freshwater tropical fish to help mature the system. I'm looking for ones that will weather the nitrogen spike and survive until the system stablises.

Some pointers to help mature the aquarium and minimise the shock to the fish would also be appreciated.

My son's dog is unruly, chews furniture, pees on the floor, is wild
in the house, barks, etc. My son and daughter-in-law feel that he is
like a son to them. He does this stuff at THEIR house, and we have
watched him there...but now they want to visit us in Georgia, and our
house is not dog-friendly...it is small, on a lake, with antiques and
a piano, etc. I am very upset that they have even asked to bring such
any unruly dog to our home. The dog is cute, etc.---and it is not HIS
fault he is spoiled---but we just don't know how to let them down---they
may not speak to us after we tell them that the dog would be best left in
a boarding facility, etc. Please advise! Linda

We have three Yorkshire Terriers, two male and one female. Most of the time, they get along fine, playing together, sleeping in the same bed, etc. However, once every day or two the larger-but-younger (1-year-old) male will attack the smaller (2-year-old) male. There haven't been any serious injuries, but we have found some small tooth marks on the smaller dog's ear.

The larger male is generally a very obedient and sweet-tempered animal. The larger dog has not been neutered; the smaller one is neutered. Both dogs get along fine with the female. We haven't noticed the smaller dog doing anything to provoke the attacks.

The smaller dog has started to avoid the larger dog, and will often cower in the corner. I'm not really worried about a serious injury happening, but I do want the smaller dog to feel safer and happier.

Anyone have any tips for helping the dogs to get along better?

Bubba was picked up by the SPCA and I gave in to my son and husband to adopted him. He was running loose and had not been fixed. Bubba will not go down stairs, figures my other 3 dogs are his best buddies who were put on earth to play all day with him, and he never takes any thing serious. Tell him no and he crouches down and barks playfully. He is a spaz and the other dogs put up with him for only so long then growl in annoyance. What can I do to calm him down. I've tried my son on a skate board for miles, Bubba pulling him. That's good for 20 minutes when he gets home. Help!

My dog is overweight and we have been using vegetables as a filler to his diet, which has worked really well and he's lost a lot of weight. He's vegetable picky but likes broccoli, the vet recently said she's hesitant about the amount of broccoli we give him. It's too rich in calcium and she would like for calcium to be less than 10% of his diet. What are good alternatives to broccoli that aren't too calcium rich?

Last Sunday, our 9 year old male golden retriever, who we thought was in great health - no health issues (that we were aware of), woke up and acted like he was 100 years old. He moved very, very slowly (lathargic) and just wanted to lie down. I put his dry dog food in small portions by his mouth and he ate his food and then he did get up and drink water and went outside (very slowly) and did his business normally - nothing odd there. He even ate his noon snack as usual, but acted very very very tired and lathargic. About 4pm he got sick to his stomach, came back in and lied down, and then about an hour later, did it again, but we needed to carry him in. He got sick to his stomach once more and I could tell he had emptied his stomach. My son gave me the phone number and I called Colorado State University Vet and while I was on the phone he stopped breathing. The vet gave me a certified pet emergency place close by to bring him and when we got there (within 5-7 minutes) they said he was already gone and that they could not jump his heart or do anything. The vet said we could have an autopsy, but that it may be hard to determine his cause of passing. He thought it was either cancer tumors that burst or problems with his heart. I called the University Vet back and they agreed. We are in shock. Has anyone heard of this before? Our dog was running in the park the day before and very healthy - so we thought. His stools were normal, he was eating normal, playing fine. The only thing possibly is that he always drank a lot of water. I filled his water bowl a lot.
